Defective Trailer But I Agree With The Hype

Defective Trailer But I Agree With The Hype
I purchased this to pull around our 5 year old daughter with special needs after reading all the amazing reviews. In effort to save some money, I found one through Amazon Warehouse in Like New condition. When it arrived, it was clear that it was never opened and sold through Amazon Warehouse due to some damage to the box.I believe our trailer had a manufacturing defect as I could not fold it open all the way. I was struggling to pull it open enough in order to put it in lock position and absolutely could not do it. I figured maybe I was not doing it correctly so I watched several YouTube videos. They all made it look effortless and meanwhile, I still had the same predicament. I eventually figured out that the fabric was so tight, it was preventing me from opening it all the way. I was able to fully unfold it only by undoing two of the velcro straps, but then I could not properly strap the velcro back in place once the trailer was in locked in position. Before sending it back, I managed to MacGyver it using some spare velcro laying around so that I could at least test it out.I understand the hype... it was such a great trailer on smooth paved surfaces and my daughter absolutely loved it. I was impressed by the weight and it was very easy to pull. It was quiet and was very smooth-riding while pulling it around on the streets in our neighborhood. We then took it to a local park and this is where we identified the shortcoming of not having shocks. We hit a stretch on the park path where there were breaks in the asphalt about every 50 feet. These breaks were fairly jarring to go over on our bikes. With the first two, my daughter didn't know what to make of it. By the third or fourth, she started screaming and crying hysterically. I turned around as I went over the next few and saw her head shaking pretty severely, to the point where I was concerned about her neck and back. It was clear that the lack of shocks would not work on this path. We also took it over grass and it was the same.... my daughter's head was shaking around so much she looked like a bobblehead. My daughter is typically a thrill-seeker who loves bumps and jumping up and down, so her reaction told us that this trailer was not right for her. While I had to return ours due to the defect, I don't think our issues with the bumps would have been any different had ours not been defective. Unfortunately, this trailer didn't meet our needs and I had to put a big hole in my pocket by purchasing a more expensive trailer with shocks. But I do agree with the other positive reviews and think this trailer is a great option for anyone looking to pull their kids around on paved surfaces.

Have been taking my son out on bike rides with this trailer. Good rain protection, we didnt get seriously dumped on but a light rain didnt get through windscreen or canopy material. The hitch connection for the axle comes with the Bee and is very easy to hook up. Hitch connection is flexible and very secure with a safety tether that loops around the bike frame. The hitching tongue connection is also very secure. This little buggie is lightweight, easy to collapse and seems very safe. Solid construction.

Another great feature is the trunk. Nice for storing gear or water and snacks, toys etc.

Very good product for the price.

Love this bike carrier for our toddler. I’ve been researching different brands and models for a bike carrier since last September, and I knew based on reviews and brand reputation that this was the right one for our son. I was new to cycling and wanted something durable, portable, comfortable and stylish. The Burley Bee is the total package for a toddler bike trailer if you don’t need the versatility of having a stroller as well. It’s easy to fold and transport in a small car (takes less than 3 minutes to detach, fold, and stow away safely) but it’s also well built and durable and seems very dependable. The carrier is smooth on the road and the bike paths I have been on so far. The extra storage space in the back is great also, and our son absolutely LOVES going on bike rides with me now. He actually asks to go every day, no matter what the weather is like. I rode when it was chilly out (45-50°) and he stayed warm with the wind/rain guard down. I have not used it in the rain, but not because I don’t think it would do well, it’s because I don’t want to ride in the rain… Overall, worth the money and I am very happy with this purchase. I wish I would’ve bought this when it was on sale last winter ($50 off).

Got the single seater, and it's excellent. Easy to set up, pull, etc, and my daughter seems very comfortable - she loves going for rides! The storage space is perfect for our backpacks as we head to preschool/work.

We got this as a replacement for a very old two-seater Burly Bee. We got it second hand more than 5 years ago and if we and the previous owners had both taken care of it better (keep covered, inside garage, replace tires), I think it would still be in great condition. Really, it would still be fine if I replaced the wheels and fixed some netting (just sun bleached). So yes, I'd say Burly Bee ages we'll and is well worth the cost. The improvements on the new model seem great, easier to use and absolutely as durable.

This is a great product. Wife hauls the kid everywhere with this. Light weight, easy hookup, and because it's a pull along, the kid doesn't cause stability issues like on a bike mounted seat.
Great weather protection and sun shade.

Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. The quality is great, it's easy to set up, rides well and I feel comfortable that my not-quite-two year old daughter is safe.

The Burley trailers are all a little pricey, but I was able to get this one at a slight discount around the holidays. I had also been eyeing a competitor's product (Schwinn) that reviewed very well and was much less expensive, but their lack of information or photos made me nervous. The reviews on the Burley were all solid, with the only real complaint being that it wasn't cheap. They also provided a significant amount of details on how it was designed and how it would keep your child safe. I was convinced and paid a little extra.

We've ridden well over 100 miles so far, and it's gone well. My daughter was afraid of it at first, and she still won't let me close the front cover, but she really enjoys riding with me (as long as I keep the flap open, of course!). The seat belts seem comfortable and secure, and she's fully enclosed by the metal frame. I did buy the supplemental seat pad, although I can't tell how much it helps, as she's fallen asleep mid-ride both with and without it. The hitch allows the bike to lean, which is convenient for stopping, and should prevent the trailer from flipping in the event that I fall over. The trailer is easy to break down and set up, and there are extra failsafes on both ends of the hitch connector to ensure that the trailer never breaks loose from the bike. There's also plenty of storage space in the back, so I usually keep my sneakers in there and put on my biking shoes, and also throw some snacks, toys and extra clothing/blankets in there.

The only real detriment, other than the somewhat high price, is that her head gets pushed forward a little bit by the helmet. There is a pouch of loose material on the back panel where her head rests, but the seatbelt straps run up to the top and keep her head somewhat forward. Otherwise, I don't think there are any other drawbacks. If you like riding and have kids, I'd highly recommend it.

Amazing product! Although it seems priced higher than other alternative trailers it definitely is very well made and very smart looking. The safety features trump its rivals and there is plenty of storage. My twin boys love this, and so does my 6 year old as we sometimes go Pokemon hunting in it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great stability and security but it's no water resistant at all
Reviewed in Germany on July 20, 2018
We bought this because we felt that child security was worth more than the low end 150€ trailers.
This product is great in terms of lightness, materials and security costraints.
What is not truthful at all, however, is that it's not "water resistant canopy". When I read canopy i thought the whole chassis was considered but, as we found out after a rainy day, all parts in yellow are not water resistant at all. We ended up having water INTO the trailer therefore trips while raining are not possible. The only water resistant parts are the plastic cover and the two sides. Again the yellow part filters water and that's a pretty big down for us as we bought this brand, among others, specifically because of that reason (it's quite rainy in our region).

Excellent trailer with loads of storage

Great because two kids fit comfortably, I have a 7 and 3 year old. With helmets they bonk a little bit fit well. You get storage pockets that work wonders for water and snacks, and the back is like a trunk ! I store the 7 year olds bike (sticking out) for riding at our destination.

Assembly was very easy, and this folds flat and is very light. Easy to haul into and out of house.
The rubber hook up is great I had doubts till riding with it and works well, no creaks or fear

I bomb down hills with kids in tow for fun confidently ! Great tool for the family and well worth the price
